If you are a student nurse, doctor or nutritionist and can speak Intermediate level Spanish (or have the time to reach this level prior to the start of the project) then your help would be greatly appreciated at this home for malnourished infants and children near to Antigua, Guatemala.
Malnutrition is one of the most pressing issues faced by the youth of Guatemala – a problem caused, and exacerbated, by widespread poverty in this Central American state.
Casa Jackson aims to provide medical, nutritional and educational assistance to the children and their families, to enable a quick recovery. The capacity is for 20 children, aged up to 11 years old.
Your exact tasks will be agreed upon your arrival, based upon your education and level of experience in a particular field. Those studying medicine or nutrition can assist the onsite paediatrician and nutritionist and follow up on the progress of the children.
General duties are likely to include bathing and feeding the children, and most importantly, providing them with your care, attention and energy!
