Looking for paid work in the Australian outback? For travellers wishing to find paid work in Australia, this can often be easier said than done. Australia is packed with travellers on Working Holiday visas and finding work isn’t always easy.

As part of the programme you get an arrival service, introductory agricultural training course as well as backup and support for the whole of your year in Australia. In terms of self financing travel there are few more sustainable ways to see the world. Many of the jobs offered by this programme include your food and accommodation while in the outback, allowing you to leave at the end of your working holiday with the freedom of knowing you have your wages saved up in your back pocket to travel around Australia or see the world!

Work Australia Programme

When you arrive in Brisbane you will spend three days getting over your jetlag at Rainbow Beach before your five-day introduction to Australian agricultural techniques. During this time we search the internal jobs board to find you work that matches your preferences, skills and attributes so that on the ninth day you can leave for the job of your choice.

Types of job available:

• Working as a tractor or machinery driver: Tractor drivers can earn the best money as they are usually paid an hourly rate and are expected to work very long hours, up to 16 hours a day. Earnings can be as much as $800 to $1500 AUS.

• Working on a cattle or sheep station: If you would like the rough tough station life then this could be for you. You would be living and working with either Australians or other backpackers. Pay is from $350 – 800 AUS.

• General farm work: This work could cover every aspect of day to day life on a property such as feeding cattle or sheep, maintaining the water supply, property maintenance or feeding orphaned animals. Pay is from $350 – $550 AUS.

• Homestead helper and Distance education teacher: This is work home-schooling children who live on these remote properties can be a rewarding job. Pay can be from $350 - $550 AUS.
